Prof Mark Weber, Associate Professor of Management and Organizations, Conrad Business, Technology and Entrepreneurship Center, University of Waterloo spoke on the value of storytelling in Business communication.

Jean Charest in an entertaining talk shared some glimpses of his eventful political career and shared his views about Canada’s place in a rapidly changing world.

He joked that Canada’s population of 35 million is within the margin of error compared to the Indian population and emphasized that with aging population Canada needs immigration and must attract talented people to grow its economy. He was happy to note that Canada has attracted many IITians who are making a stellar contribution to the Canadian economy.

He made it clear that Canada’s growth will come from trade and Canada has to solicit this trade aggressively as it is a small economy in global terms. Canada must pursue bilateral trade deals with emerging economies as well as must develop innovative new trading blocks like partnership with European Union etc to get a good share of the global trade.

He pointed out that  these strategies are being implemented in recognition of ascendant Asian economic power to which the western economies must adjust.

Prof Mark Weber in his impressive presentation pointed out the importance of storytelling in Business communication. He gave simple and effective demonstrations of how interesting stories are remembered by the audience. He highlighted that a good communicator should have a number of relevant stories and they need not be your own! These could be of your friends, colleagues, suppliers or simply stories that you have read.

IIT Alumni Canada President Vinod Munshi  informed the audience that Pan IIT 2014  North America conference will be held in Toronto and IITAC  gearing up to hold this prestigious event which is expected to attract over 1000 delegates from North America.
