IITAC Board Meetings
  • 11 Jul 2016 9:00 AM | Suresh Sinnugounder

    Dear Members of the IITAC,

A couple of days ago I happened to meet Mrs. Khare, W/o (late) Mr. Pradeep Khare.

Most of you, especially, older members may remember Mr. Khare a very renowned Indian Canadian. He succumbed to cancer and passed away last year.

His family is in Vancouver and they have set up a scholarship in his memory. I am forwarding the email for making aware of this scholarship to give wide publicity.

Unfortunately this year's (2016) scholarship application due date has passed. But the scholarship will be available for years to come.

    Thanks. Suresh.

Subject: Announcing the Pradeep Khare Memorial Scholarship

    Dear Family and Friends,

Today marks one year since we lost our loving Baba / Dad / Husband.  This past year has been difficult as we try to find a new path.  We thank all of you for all of your support.

As you all know, Dad was always committed to furthering education and development opportunities for the younger generation and was involved in many formal initiatives between India and Canada.  With this in mind, we are pleased to share with you that we have developed a scholarship in Dad's name; the Pradeep Khare Memorial Scholarship.  This scholarship specifically incorporates Dad's vision and and is awarded to an international student of Indian origin, who is enrolling in graduate studies in Canada and who demonstrates financial need.  Attached is a brochure about the scholarship and below a link to the website.

    http://khare.ic-impacts.com

The first scholarship will be awarded this August and has already been sent to schools across Canada and India. For this year, we have set a $2500 amount for the scholarship which we plan to increase in the following years as the scholarship becomes more established.

All of you were a part of Dad's life in some way, and we wanted to share this with you. We thank IC-IMPACTS for their guidance in setting this up and providing technological infrastructure to help us administer this scholarship.  In addition, Nikisha played a central role in driving this forward.

We are excited to have this in place in Dad's honor. Thank you for taking the time to read this and please feel free to share.

    - Nikisha, Daisy, Mom, and Nitin

A formal review of Ontario’s Long-Term Energy Plan is currently underway.

    http://www.energy.gov.on.ca/en/ltep/

The Government is currently seeking input from the industry and the public through September 9th. There are three ways to provide feedback:

    1. Take a short online survey
    2. Provide a formal submission through the Environmental Registry or write to the Minister of Energy (see below for contact information), and/or

This is an opportunity for all of us, who are associated with the nuclear industry, to have our voices heard on the importance of retaining a strong nuclear component in the long-term energy plan.  This includes refurbishing existing units and building new nuclear to help meet Ontario’s electrical demand with a clean, cost effective, and reliable source.  I encourage you to participate by taking the survey, writing a letter and attending the open house in Toronto if you are able.

Dear IITians, You must have enjoyed the picnic. What is your impression, what did you like about it most, what do you think could be improved? Please write your feed back so we all know. Thanks. Khaliq

    Hi All,

Thanks for your responses. It is encouraging to see all positive and accommodative and useful suggestions. Fortunately our name is IIT Alumni Canada and that way we can include any IITian living anywhere in Canada. Some of the IITians living in other Canadian cities are already in our database and my suggestion is that those that are not can be invited to register on our website. That way when we communicate with the members all the IITIans living in Canada will receive the information about our activities including our interactions with Pan IIT US, Pan IIT Global and all the other organisations in Canada like C-IBC, Canada India Foundation, MITACS etc. In case any of the IITians from other cities are visiting Toronto during our functions they will be happy to join. This will be especially true for Pan IIT 2014 when they can especially travel to Toronto to attend. It is my experience that IITians living in smaller places and with smaller number of  IITians are more excited to see a bigger group of IITians.

    Khaliq

It is a good idea to have IIT Alumnus from other places in Canada to be part of IITAC.
We should also give them some space on the IITAC website to  for pictures of their  activities or any articles they may want to add to the content.

Yes, it makes perfect sense.  That will perhaps spur the formal formation of other chapters in Canada as well, all of whom can be accommodated on our website.  The question is , do we (GTA) then call ourselves a "chapter"?  Do we need a HQ?  Some questions to ponder !!

That is how we are trying to do. They should be a chapter of IIT-AC and IIT-AC should give website and other support .

Why not ? Last time I Checked Calgary was part of Canada.

They would certainly be IITAC even if they were to name it after their city. IIT Alumni Calgary. :)

    Hi all,

Do you think IIT Alumni living in Calgary should be part of IITAC?. We already have some in the IITAC database with Calgary address.

    Thanks

    Khaliq.
